12oz Japanese vintage deadstock selvage denim woven fabric. Selvage denim is woven on vintage looms or modern reproductions, specifically chosen for their aesthetic and function. It incorporates the edge of the fabric, the selvage, into the weave which allows you to use it as a finished edge. That little pop of white when you roll up hems or cuffs is absolutely fabulous! Selvage denim tends to have a tighter, denser weave, which gives the fabric a crisp feel and structured hand. Japan has become a leader in denim manufacturing and Japanese selvage denim is highly regarded.
This fabric is vintage deadstock from the Kaihara Mill, one of the top manufacturers of selvage denim in the world. Sukejiro Kaihara founded the mill in 1951 as a indigo dying expert. Kaihara Mill supplies denim to brands like J. Crew and Nudie (and now, Blackbird!)
Please make note of the width, as selvage denim is much more narrow than average bolts of denim.
