A Letter From Our Founder
Hello to all our lovely followers,
As our team preps for our biggest sale of the year, I wanted to take a moment to say a big thank you to our amazing BF community. Being able to share our fabrics with you and having them be met with excitement & boundless creativity, time and time again, truly makes us love what we do!
We are a small but mighty crew here at Blackbird with 11 full-time and 4 part-time team members. We share a passion for making and a commitment to infusing joy, play, and inspiring fabrics into your sewing journey.
Like many small businesses, this year has been tough for us. While we are incredibly grateful and excited about all of the projects we have cooking up (more on that later!), we’ve also faced rising supplier costs, supply chain challenges, increased competition, and a downturn in sales. I’m so proud of the resilience and agility of our team in responding to these challenges. I wanted to share this vulnerable truth with you today because, you, our lovely cheerleaders and customers, truly have an impact. Your support keeps us going, full stop.
During a time when many of us are feeling sales fatigue and dreading our inbox, I thought I would share some of the reasons why our Black Friday sale continues to be the most important sale of the year for our small biz:
- It allows us to invest in new products & pursue exciting projects like our Blackbird Exclusive collections (check them out above!) and our *top secret* pattern line that's in the works.
- It offers us a fresh start by turning over seasonal inventory and making space for new stock on our shelves.
- It supports us in giving our hardworking Birdies a much-needed break to rest and spend time with loved ones over the holidays. We close up shop between Christmas and New Years and our revenue from Black Friday helps us keep things rolling while our team is taking a rest!
- It quite literally keeps our business afloat during the lower sales months that inevitably follow.
- Give us a boost on socials — sharing & commenting has an enormous impact on how often our content gets seen!
- Tell your loved ones about us — we’re always so thankful for the power of word of mouth!

Despite this year’s challenges, the future feels bright. I can’t wait to share all of our hard work with you in 2023. Thank you for being here!
